BARGAIN retail store B&M has taken over the former Woolworths store in Congleton.

The national discount chain opened a store in High Street on Saturday.

B&M was formed in 1976 and offers a range of goods at discounted prices from toys and household items to food and drink. It already has 89 stores nationwide, including Hanley and Burslem.

B&M is also set to take over the former Woolworths store in Swine Market, Nantwich.

Former Woolworths staff at the Nantwich store, who were made redundant when the company was forced to plunge into administration, are believed to have applied for a number of positions with B&M.

Administrator Deloitte said it was unable to comment on individual stores and that discussions are still ongoing in regard to all shops.
