Trevor Humphreys, Academy of Sport Manager said: "This year we've got our strongest squad yet, with 25 students ready to battle it out in their chosen sports to bring back as many medals as possible."

The NULC students will compete with students from across the UK in a bid to beat their current record of three gold medals, which they achieved in the 2012 National Championships.

Trevor added: "Newcastle-under-Lyme College is going from strength to strength with regard to sport. As West Midlands Sports College of the Year, the pressure is on for us to perform and come home with another record medal haul.

"We've got a strong squad who're focused and training regularly.  The College has also invested over £20,000 on a new Sports Science Lab, meaning our Elite Athletes can benefit from the same type of health and fitness testing used by Olympic athletes."

The BCS National Championships take place once a year during the spring term and are one of biggest annual multi-sport events in the UK. Each year more than 2,500 students and staff from all over the UK meet up to compete in 15 different sports.
