ALSAGER pole vault star Kate Dennison has set her sights on this summer's World Championships after breaking the British record for the third time in a month.

The 24-year-old cleared 4.49m at an indoor meeting in Oyannax, France, last weekend.

The event, which was the final of the indoor season, continued a superb run of form.

She made a national best by clearing 4.45m in the UK Championships in Sheffield, and then beat that just seven days later when she achieved 4.46 at the Birmingham Grand Prix.

The Sale Harrier will now turn her attention to the outdoor campaign and the World Championships in Berlin in August.

She's hopeful of making the final there as her decision to have Achilles surgery last September continues to pay dividends.

She had the operation after an injury-hit season culminated in her failing to qualify for the Olympic final in Beijing last August.

She said: "Going for surgery was a long term decision because I didn't want to be bothered by this four years down the line.

"Last year everyone was focused on the Olympics and I had so much going wrong. I also tore my quad and had tonsillitis, so it was a bit of a disastrous Olympic year.

"It is great to be making personal bests now, but also injury-free."

Dennison's recent form has included reaching the final of the European Indoor Championship in Turin on March 7, her first appearance in a major European final.

She finished sixth, but was only the thickness of a vest from clearing 4.50m.

Dennison, who has topped the UK rankings for the last three years, now aims to raise her game to challenge the world's best in Berlin.

She said: "It is back to hard training for the World Championships.

"I want to get to 4.50 and beyond. The rest of the girls will be in the 4.60 range and I would think it will take 4.55 to be in the world final."
