RISING sprint star Ashlee Nelson has been named in the

finalised Great Britain squad for the Beijing Olympic

Games.

The 17-year-old City of Stoke speedster has been added to

the women's 4 x 100m relay team after a series of impressive

displays in recent months.

The Birches Head youngster will now join elder brother Alex

in the British squad, after he was selected for the men's 200m

event.

Nelson achieved the B qualifying standard for the Games in

May, when she ran an impressive 11.37 seconds on her way to

victory in the Pavia International meeting in Italy.

She then went on to claim a double sprint success in Bedford

at the beginning of June, before claiming a silver medal in the

100m at the World Junior Championships in Poland.

A delighted Nelson said, “It's come as a bit of a shock, but

I'm absolutely delighted.

“No other competition can compare to the Olympic Games, and

I'm sure it will be a great experience.”
