NINE-year-old Ethan Lemon shows "exceptional artistic flair", his headteacher says.

The youngster excels in a variety of art forms using pencils and crayons. Now, the pupil from Kingsfield First School in Biddulph has been nominated in the Bright Young Thing category of the Staffordshire Moorlands Community Awards by his head-teacher.

Ethan, pictured, said: "I started enjoying art from an early age and I especially like to create pictures of helicopters and planes."

But it is not just in school where Ethan produces his artwork.

"I keep a lot of my artwork in a drawer at home because I like to do drawings when I get home from school. I also help to teach my younger sister different art techniques."

Ethan, who wants to be a professional artist when he is older, took part in the school's art club, which focused on painting and making models.

He said: "The club was run by our teacher Miss Dennigan and she really helped us try out different techniques."

In addition to his art, Ethan's other hobbies include playing football and hockey.

Headteacher Dr Jason Phillips said: "Ethan is an exceptionally good artist for his age with flair, ability and an eye for detail.

"He is highly motivated by art and is focused on producing high quality pieces. In addition to this, Ethan is kind, polite and a helpful and caring member of the community."
