Arsonists blamed for fire at former nightclub

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze outside a former nightclub.

Police alerted Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service after spotting smoke coming from a building in Waterloo Road, Burslem, at 4.41am today.

Fire crews found a pile of rubbish had been set alight in a courtyard at the former Heaven & Hell nightclub.

It took them around an hour to put out the fire.

Arsonists are being blamed for starting the fire.

A brigade spokesman said: “Fire officers worked with Staffordshire Police to gain entry to the building.

“They discovered a pile of rubbish had been set alight in the courtyard.

“The fire did not spread to the building.”

Witnesses to the fire should call police on 101.
