Angling: Prestigious memorial match comes to Fenton
CLUB anglers have been granted the chance of a lifetime to fish for the prestigious Jack Shanahan Memorial Trophy.
The Waterford crystal and 24-carat gold trophy is normally kept under lock and key by Bolton Angling Society, rarely seeing the light of day even when the annual competition which shares its name takes place on the Manchester Shipping Canal.
But this year, Jack Shanahan's relatives, including Coors Sunday Football League committee member Ron Shanahan, have decided to bring the event to the Potteries and the 15-peg Corkies Pool in Fenton.
The club, run by Darren Shenton, will combine the competition with a family fun-day from 10am until 3pm on Saturday, October 6.

Shenton, aged 41, said: "For our little club, it's the equivalent of Eccleshall or Leek CSOB reaching an FA Cup final. We can't believe how lucky we are.
"The family, who have links with the area, know we do a lot of work to make angling accessible for children and so want to reward us."
All places have already been snapped up for the mixed junior and senior event.
Shenton added: "There are normally about 200 anglers competing for this each year, but we can only fit 15. It is going to be an incredible day."
