DETECTIVES investigating a coach crash which killed a Polish

fruit picker believe the vehicle's brakes failed.

Piotr Wolski, aged 27, died when he was thrown from the

coach and became trapped under wreckage on August 18.

Another four people who were hurt in the incident in Alton

remain in hospital.

Detective Inspector Guy Titchener said: "The bus was heading

downhill towards Alton. We believe the braking system failed so

the coach was unable to negotiate the bend."

Yesterday, North Staffordshire Coroner Ian Smith opened and

adjourned an inquest into Mr Wolski's death.
