Air ambulance safety checks
SAFETY checks have been ordered on a type of helicopter used by West Midlands Ambulance Service after a fault was found which could cause them to crash.
A crack was discovered on the main rotor hub of one Eurocopter EC135 helicopter, prompting a safety warning by the European Aviation Safety Agency.
The agency has ordered pre-flight checks while an investigation into the problem continues.
The model is used within ambulance services throughout the country, and West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has three of the aircrafts.
