Aim to attract 21.7m tourists
PLANS to boost Staffordshire's £1.6 billion tourism industry are set to be discussed by senior councillors this week.
Staffordshire County Council is drawing up a new tourism strategy to bring more people to both the county and the Potteries.
It is estimated that tourism is responsible for more than 33,600 jobs in the region.
The council wants to attract 21.7 million visitors to the county every year by 2014, an increase of 1.6 million.

Councillor Ben Adams, cabinet member for economic growth, said businesses can capitalise on people holidaying in England prompted by the recession.
He added: "Staffordshire is a rich and diverse county with an incredible heritage."

“All well and good but we need to get the media on our side; in particular BBC Midlands Today. BBC Midlands Today have for many years been promoting the Birmingham area and counties to the South with little regard to the North Midlands. The C.C. would do well by complaining to the BBC and The BBC Trust on this matter.”
