Agent looks ahead to a strong 2013.
AN ESTATE agent who opened his franchise office a year ago says that the first year has gone far better than he dared hope for 12 months ago and says he aims to do even better in 2013.
Rob Norton, who runs the Goodchilds agency is Piccadilly, Hanley, says his progress from a standing start last January has taken even him by surprise and his first year results are comfortably ahead of his targets. He is especially pleased with the sales performance which have been much better than forecast.
Rob says: "My first year has gone far better than I expected and I am over the moon. In what is often described as a difficult market I am really delighted with the way things have gone, especially the sales side.
"It's always difficult coming to an area with no presence in the market and I expected to come here and do well with rentals and have a slower start with sales but I was wrong and we have exceeded our targets in both. The targets were set high and I based them on how other offices have performed on recent start ups so it's been very good. In the first year we sold 35 per cent more than we planned and we did 20 per cent more lets than targeted.''

Rob says having the name and support of the multi-award winning Goodchilds brand has helped but adds that he has also put in the hours needed to get a new business off the ground successfully.
He adds: "The Goodchilds brand has helped massively, it's such a good company to work for and we're all so passionate about selling properties! I'm not saying it has come easy as I'm constantly having 8 or 9 o'clock finishes but it looks like all the hard work is paying off.''
He says that he is looking forward to 2013 in a positive light and that he has noticed that house owners are becoming more realistic about the value of their properties.
He says: " There are some people thinking they can get 2007 prices but that's not happe---ning this marketWorking with realistic vendors is a big help and I just hope for more like it in 2013.''
