PLANS have been submitted to create offices, warehouses and manufacturing buildings as part of a major industrial project.

Developer Goodman Ltd also wants to build a security gatehouse, 250 car parking spaces, new access roads and footpaths on land off Crewe Road, Basford West.

Members of the public have until July 15 to comment.

Outline plans to create the Basford West major industrial estate were approved by the former Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council in May 2008.

They included buildings up to 25-metres tall as part of a large-scale industrial scheme for Crewe.

The scheme will include a £3.2 million contribution to the Crewe Green Link Road and improvements to Junction 16 of the A500 and the adjoining section of the A500.

Almost 1,500 letters of objection were received by Crewe and Nantwich Council when the outline plans were first put forward.

And members of the Basford East Basford West Action Group (BEBWAG) are continuing to fight against the development.

Spokesman Gustav Pilsel, who lives in Shavington, said:

"I'm concerned that the application flies in the face of what was originally put forward."

Councillor David Brickhill, Cheshire East portfolio holder for the environment, said: "Warehousing provides jobs and we need jobs, especially during this current economic climate."
