THE A51 near Stafford remains closed due to flooding.

Diversion signs have been in place since Christmas Eve, after heaving rain caused a nearby brook to overflow onto the London Road near to Weston.

Emergency services are still trying to clear the water and have urged drivers not to pass the road closed signs.

“This road has been flooding to a greater and greater degree for over 18 months every time it rains. Instead of carrying out preventive maintenance the County Council have waited until the road is completely impassable causing chaos and wrecking the roads and verges through Hixon and Stowe where the diversion takes you. This will no doubt now cost £10s of thousands to resurface. The County Councillor with his highways portfolio needs to get a grip.”

“Me and my family travelled on this road last Friday. We followed the diversion in place which took us through an even worse flood! Have the road team actually travelled the diverted route?”
