THE A50 is closed today in both directions in Cobridge because of an unstable chimney.

Part of Waterloo Road has been cordoned off since the chimney, which is next a house that was formerly museum to author Arnold Bennett, partially collapsed on Monday morning.

But safety experts have found that the chimney is so precarious that it now needs to be removed.

The road – between Waterloo Road and Pitt Street East – shut at 6am this morning.

“The road – between Waterloo Road and Pitt Street East – shut at 6am this morning. -Sentinel.

Yet another example of 'daft' reporting. Pitt Street East is off Waterloo Rd. Therefore there can't be a 'between'. It makes no sense -and as such -nonsensical -it is uesless as a piece of information.
The part of Waterloo Rd 'closed both ways' lay BETWEEN Cobridge Traffic Lights and its junction with Pitt St East; over half a mile stretch of the A50.

These daft silly peices of useless information are caused by employing staff from other parts of the country -with no local person employed to 'oversee' such errors where 'locations' and place names are concerned.

    Sigh.”

“Don't worry. Businesses are apparently waiting to invade Hanley. Maybe Cobridge will benefit from these magic beans.”
