GRANDMOTHER Pam Harrison says motorists are simply 'easy pickings' for the council as the number caught driving along bus lanes smashed through the 8,000 mark.

They have been fined since April, 2011 – with almost half caught out in Huntbach Street, Hanley.

Former pottery worker Pam was hit with a £60 fine after being snapped by the CCTV car on the short bus lane near Meigh Street car park.

"I won't go to Hanley now out of principle. You were able to use Huntbach Street to get to the car park for years and then all of a sudden the council makes it a bus lane."

The bus lane left motorists having to make a 1.3-mile detour to reach Meigh Street car park.

Pam, of Oversley Road, Fegg Hayes, added: "It is just ridiculous and they must also catch so many people who are unfamiliar with the area. As you are looking for the car park you find yourself in a bus lane.

"Motorists are basically just easy pickings."

Latest figures show 8,074 motorists have been caught driving in the city's 12 bus lanes.

The Huntbach Street bus lane tops the list with 4,364 penalties, followed by Stafford Street, in Hanley, with 1,628 fines and Hinde Street, in Hanley, with 767 victims.

“I think this is a ridiculous scenario, last year the council were reviewing this bus lane so that all traffic could have access. in my opinion this is just another reason why not to visit the shopping centre, we are just not shopper/ car friendly.
This particular road is really not fit for purpose, its confusing and the council are deliberately taking advantage of the local people and its visitors.
Give a warning yes, but actually fine someone is nothing more than a money making venture by some clueless individuals within the council.
    Make you mind up please!”
