£2m home in parking row
PLANS to knock down a boarded-up pub and build a care home have sparked objections.
Orchard Care Homes wants to build a £2 million, 42-bedroom care home on the site of the Holden Bridge Hotel, on Leek New Road, Sneyd Green.
-

PLANS: The Holden Bridge Hotel.
It is thought the development will create 45 jobs. But some neighbours have objected to Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Paula Pawson, of Berwick Road, said: "We already have a problem with parking in the street from the dance school in Leek New Road and when the pub was open, patrons also parked in the street. We feel the site is not large enough for the proposed plans."
Two other neighbours on Berwick Road have also complained.
A decision on the application should be made within weeks.

“Perhaps this story could be re-reported,and speak to a resident that lives ON Berwick Road? Mrs Pawson lives OFF Berwick Road,on St Magarets Drive;where parking is not a problem at all.I cant see how Mrs Pawson can comment on bad parking on a street that she does not reside on,and does not cause her any problems?”
by VERY local resident, Very close to the site

“Instead of complaining about the parking situation, why not complain about the residents on Berwick Road that drive up the pavements, along the cycle tracks, park on grass verges, and use the former entrance to the pub as some sort of right of way? How long before someone is injured because of a car that is using the width of the pavement to park illegally. I have to look away when I see how these people drive on the pavement instead of either just pulling on to their drives,or reversing in. How lazy and risky is this practice? I am no way connected with the dance school, and the developement of the Holden Bridge Hotel site has my full backing.”
