11-year-old boy impaled on fence in Burton park

A YOUNG boy has been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries after he was impaled on a fence he was trying to climb.

The incident took place in Heath Road Park in Burton at around 6.10pm on Monday evening.

An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When ambulance staff arrived, the 11-year-old boy had been lifted off the fence by members of the public.

“Staff were told that the youngster had slipped while climbing over the fence.

“The boy had suffered a potentially life threatening puncture wound to the chest.

“Due to his condition, the lad was airlifted to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital for specialist care.”
