A CHARITY is celebrating treating more than 100 people with Hepatitis C.

Festival Park-based CRI held a party yesterday to mark the milestone.

It has screened 624 Stoke-on-Trent men and women between the ages of 18 and 64 since July last year.

Of those people, 100 have been treated for Hepatitis C and 43 have been completely cured and discharged.

The project has been made possible through £600,000 of funding from the Safer City Partnership.

Most of them contracted the disease through sharing drug equipment.

The disease mostly affects the liver and can lead to cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Treatment can prove difficult for sufferers but CRI can offer support for side effects, which include becoming anaemic, nausea, skin rashes, loss of hair and depression.

It involves daily tablets and injections once a week for either 24 or 48 weeks.

About 180 million people are infected worldwide.

For more information, call CRI on 01782 212800.

“You are 100% right Mike , these people think we're stupid thinking the virus would be gone and out of our systems! I'm waiting myself to see if the FDA will approve this that the Russians have been working on for over 20 years and now have it patent - It take the virus out of your system for good, I cant wait but the US probably wont let it come because so many will lose MONEY !!!!! The Russian drug is half the price and the virus is gone in a month! Please read the article

“I just want to say that this story is trying to explain that we provide treatment within the community and we have had 100 people into treatment.....43 have been discharged from the service and the rest are currently still in treatment. Of those who have been discharged, they have cleared the virus. I am sorry if you feel that story is incorrect but i can guarantee that the findings are accurate.”

“I have hepatitis C as a result of NHS infected treatment for my haemophilia, a blood clotting disorder, as this story says "100 have been treated for Hepatitis C and 43 have been completely cured and discharged" This is less than 50%. why dose the UK government, who hid this deadly virus from the public for many years, wish us to believe that the cure rate after treatment is well over 3/4 of those infected.
Just one other note to remember, their is no cure for this virus, all treatment dose is reduce the viral load to undetectable levels for the present tests, no doctoe wil ever signe a letter that states you no longer have hepatitis C, If you dont believe this just try and get one to do this for you.
For over 25 years I, and many liie me have faught this government to tell the truth about what they and the NHS were awaer of concerning hepatitis C, but for the last 15 years the government have kept this killer virus a well guarded secret.

    Thanks.
    Mike.
